A delightful, fun and energetic musical
play for kids in JK to Grade 3,
designed to aid in the prevention of child abuse. |
|
Patty and Jenny are having
a lovely picnic in the park where they discover some
important things about personal space through discussions
and some insightful little characters they meet. Key
messages in this delightful play are:
|
- Personal Space--Discovering
the space around us that belongs only to us
- Feelings--Identifying the
feelings we get (positive or negative) when people
enter our personal space
- Responses--Learning the best
way to respond to the negative feelings
- Disclosure--Understanding
who to tell, when to tell and some other very important
things about telling.

We also cover luring techniques
of potential abusers. Best of all, we blow bubbles,
sing songs and talk to a unique lady-bug and special
little frog - putting everything we learned all together
into a simple and easy-to-remember verse!

Developed with valuable input from
children's mental health professionals, educators and
also abuse survivors, this program allows the introduction
of this vital topic to be presented to young kids in
a responsible and age-appropriate manner. We have created
a program that is devoted specifically to the 4-8 age
range as it is felt that the earlier we can begin speaking
to our children (in an age-appropriate way) about this
topic, the sooner we begin the prevention process.

| After the play... |
 After seeing our plays,
we know it's important to continue talking with kids about the topics covered in order
to enhance their understanding of them. To help get started with this, we
include a fun and creative colouring work-book to
be provided to each child for completion with their teacher
and/or parent.
The booklet outlines and re-iterates the
play's key messages creating an important basis for discussion
between adults and the kids they care about. From there,
frequently seeking out and making use of teachable moments
as well as staying involved in, and aware of, the activities
going on in children's lives, helps create a basis for
continuing to help protect them. (booklets are available
